Situated just 30 kilometers south of Lampang and 125 kilometers south of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, is Mae Moh Golf Course. This 18-hole, par-72 course is managed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and is located next to a power station. However, don’t let its large and unsightly neighbour put you off, the power station actually has no impact on the golf course. The course largely overlooks an attractive clay lignite mine that blends well into the surrounding area. The front nine holes were built in 1984, along an impressive mountain ridge and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valley. Many a golfer has come a cropper on this first half of the course, due to the hilly terrain and blind shots to several greens. The second nine were opened to the general public in 1990 and are somewhat more forgiving. The most memorable hole on the course, is the spectacular 10th which falls steeply downhill to a very small green. Hit long and you end up in a bunker, fall short and you will lose your ball in water. This par-72, 6,840 yard course is well-maintained and offers a restaurant and onsite bar for much needed post-round refreshments.
