Opened in 2009, Gold Canyon is a 1.5-hour drive from Chiang Mai, heading towards Lamphun. Set among orchards, woodlands and canyons, Gold Canyon offers a quiet, scenic location for an enjoyable round of golf. At over 7,300 yards from the back-tees, the distance from green-to-tee is often long and hilly so be prepared for some good exercise. Trees are a natural hazard and are sometimes even situated directly in front of tees.  The challenge is to hit past the trees, or attempt to pass the ball through the branches. Proficient golfers may find the front 9 relatively easy, however the back 9 presents a greater challenge, with tighter and thicker grass areas and various water hazards. The clubhouse and other amenities are average and the drive time will put some people off, but nevertheless, Gold Canyon offers scenic mountain views and is better priced than most Chiang Mai golf courses. Be warned that Gold Canyon is popular with golf tour groups and can get busy.
